5 ideal cocktails for UK Father’s Day in 2022

Cointreau cocktails

It’s Father’s Day in the UK on Sunday 19 June, so whether he’s a shaken not stirred kind of guy or prefers a sweeter tipple, it’s time to swap the pint glass for your best tumbler glass and treat your dad to something a bit more special and sophisticated this year. From whisky cocktails to classic martinis, Patrick Pistolesi, Master Mixologist at NIO Cocktails has shared his 5 Dad-approved recipes that will spoil him this Father’s Day. 1. Old Fashioned If your dad is a whiskey lover, this cocktail is perfect. As a drink with such classic, complex flavours, it often surprises people to learn how simple the Old Fashioned is to make. However, the challenge is finding the perfect balance of ingredients to not overpower the whiskey; but enhance it. Ingredients: 60ml bourbon 3 dashes of Angostura bitters ½ teaspoon liquid sugar 1 teaspoon water (this is to help enhance the flavour by slightly diluting the alcohol) For the garnish:  Orange peel Equipment: Lowball glass Stirrer Method: Add the liquid sugar, bitters and water to a glass and mix until combined. Fill the glass with ice and pour in the whiskey. Stir slowly and well for 20-30 seconds, to let the ice melt slowly. Express the orange peel over the drink then drop it in the glass. You can find the full recipe here, with Patrick Pistolesi’s expert tips. 2. Classic Margarita A classic margarita is the perfect tipple for dads who prefer a sharp, citrus, zingy serve, as opposed to a sweeter beverage. And if you want… Read More

Celebrate the future of Tasmanian whiskey: Lark Distillery’s latest dram

Aberfeldy scotch whiskey cocktail drink

In Tasmania, Australia lies a homegrown success story in the world of spirits: Lark Distillery. And it was thirty years ago recently that it received the first Tasmanian distiller’s license granted in 154 years. Since then it seems, Australian spirits – or, more specifically, Tasmanian – have gone from strength-to-strength. From a makeshift still on a kitchen table, founder Bill Lark’s passion unfurled into a quiet pursuit of excellence that is being recognised around the world.  Lark Distillery has grown to become one of the most celebrated and recognised distilleries in the country and beyond, being named as one of four distillers nominated for Worldwide Whisky Producer of the Year at the 2020 International Wine & Spirit Competition.  To mark this momentous achievement, The HOUSE of LARK has released two single malts that represent Lark’s rich history paying homage to a legendary Scottish single malt and Lark’s rich Tasmanian roots – Rare Cask Series Glenfarclas and Origins Single Malt Whisky. A little about Rare Cask Series Glenfarclas The direct fire stills impart a rich and recognisable flavour on this spirit, while also being matured in the finest Spanish Oloroso casks, creating a moment of true indulgence. This bottling celebrates the friendship of Bill Lark and John Grant, having been distilled in 1992, the birth year of Lark, then left to mature and blossom through the decades. KINOBIGIN SakeLaunch StevenWoodburn 25

The ‘6 Elements’ dinners will take place in Sydney and Melbourne and will deliver the ultimate culinary experience for lovers of gin and Japanese cuisine alike. The ‘6 Elements’ dinners are inspired by KI NO BI’s intricate production process, where botanicals are divided into six different categories, known as the 6 Elements, steeped in rice spirit, and then distilled individually. Produced in Kyoto, KI NO BI gin is distilled with Japanese botanicals, grouped by flavour to create the six elements which are macerated and distilled separately, before being blended with Fushimi water.   The 6 Elements that make up the dry style of gin KI NO BI is renowned for are Base, Citrus, Tea, Herbal, Spice and Fruity & Floral, which are then blended to create the distinctive KI NO BI flavours. As most gin lovers would appreciate, water is a vital ingredient of this popular spirit, as it makes up more than 50% of the liquid inside every bottle. The KI NO BI distillery is located close to the famous sake-producing area of Fushimi, south of Kyoto city. The name “Fushimi” comes from the Japanese words for “hidden” or “underground” and “water”, and Fushimi water is renowned for its purity, softness and flavour. In addition to the pureness provided by the Fushimi water, quality ingredients… Read More
