The Cannery in Rosebery has a new market series this August

Cannery Rosebery

If ever you’ve needed an excuse to head to Rosebery in Sydney and see what’s up, then consider this it. It’s a small suburb, yes, but for what it lacks in urban sprawl, it makes-up for in gastronomic offering and artisan products like cooking utensils, storage solutions and mountains of kitchen paraphernalia. If it’s good enough for the likes of Stanton & Co by the people behind Riley Street Garage then it’s no surprise the venue at the heart of the suburb, The Cannery, is throwing its first special market day filled with stalls from independent artisans Sunday 5 August from 10am to 3pm. The beautiful converted warehouse space will offer a mixture of craft items, food products, gifts ideas, fashion, art and more from boutique stallholders among the regular list of premium brands The Cannery has become famous for. It’ll feature a range of childrens’ activities across the historic setting of the old Rosella Soup Cannery, including live music and a silent disco for kids of all ages to blow off steam. For those who’re just after some food and bevs, the likes of Welcome Dose Specialty Coffee, Grain Organic Bakery, Frenchies Bistro & Brewery (where you can grab a fresh cold beer as well as a delicious lunch) and Stanton & Co. (where a dozen oysters may go down well after perusing the markets) will be there all day. Entry to event is free and you should probably consider walking, riding your bike, or using PT. The Cannery Rosebery 61 Mentmore Avenue, Rosebery

The Stables in Paddington is stylish eating off the beaten track

Stables Paddington dining room

If there’s one thing you notice about the Sydney restaurant scene, it’s that people are hesitant to break away from the hot-spots of diners; and, to be honest, it makes sense. Until you discover The Stables in Paddington; a new restaurant just off the main the main drag of Paddington that unashamedly does its own thing in its own space, offering something diners have been crying for. Mood lit, funky styled and expertly catered for, The Stables in Paddington has all the hallmarks of a well-established restaurant in the centre of the city, despite only having been open a few weeks. The building itself houses a lot of history in an “if the walls could talk” kind of way. Having been established since the 1800s, the venue has housed stables (obviously), a hay loft, a tanner’s residence and ironworks over the years, adding to the unique pieces of Australian heritage that make the venue as enjoyable as it is. Executive chef Thomas Gripton’s menu plays along with the rustic nature of the interior and the charm-to-life element of the whole thing, working with locally-sourced and expertly executed morsels. Thanks in large part to his enduring relationships with local providores and artisans, the chef’s take on butter-poached lobster with herb jus, avruga caviar, dill and kombu, slow-cooked pork jowl with garlic yoghurt, celery ribbons, celery leaf oil and crisped black rice as well as nori to miso braised eggplant with parmesan, shallots, dill and aromatics make for one ‘bowl-you-over’ experience. Couple all that menu fancy with a wine range… Read More

Not-so-naughty protein cake pops with Bulk Nutrients supplements

Chocolate cake pops

Winter means comfort food and nothing says “comfort” quite like cake-on-a-stick, right? Cake pops came about a few years ago and haven’t gone anywhere, but instead, changed to accommodate the awesome things you can now do with healthier alternatives like chocolate flavoured protein powder by the likes of Australian brand Bulk Nutrients. Here’s how to make a less-guilty version of the favourite while winter is still a good enough reason to hide it. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons organic butter or coconut oil – melted 1 scoop (30g) Bulk Nutrients WPI or WPC in Chocolate 1 scoop (30g) Bulk Nutrients Egg Protein 1 scoop (2g) Bulk Nutrients Sweetvia 1 teaspoon vanilla essence 1 whole egg 60g sugar free dark chocolate – melted 2 teaspoon cocoa powder 20g hazelnut or almond meal 100g wholemeal self-raising flour 60g chopped hazelnuts 1/3 cup milk of choice 1 packet, skewers Directions: Set oven to 160 degrees celsius and line a brownie tin. San Churro has gone gluten-friendly

San Churro

The Spanish-inspired masters of chocolate have changed what they do so well to make it that much better – and nobody’s mad about it. San Churro has gone gluten-friendly, incorporating low-gluten options for those who don’t want to feel quite as bloated/guilty/heavy/carby – and then some – as you’d normally after a solid binge at any one of their shops around the country. Now before you get too excited, this is still a no-no for those with coeliac’s disease as the menu still contains gluten, but for those whose lifestyle choice it is to cut their intake, then consider it low-guilt, too. Available from 3 July, churros for one, churros for two and kids churros will all take-on the new change, meaning their most classic staples can now be enjoyed by everyone with a sweet tooth. “San Churro aims to provide a fun and inclusive dining experience. We try to cater to all of our customers and are thrilled to now provide Australians with a low gluten alternative,” says Giro Maurici of San Churro. Get them at any San Churro shop now. Bellucci Cucina Sydney has nestled amongst the skyscrapers and called it home

Bellucci Sydney terrace

Above Australia Square’s Ryan’s Bar, tucked away in a corner is Bellucci Cucina Sydney, the city’s answer to the cry out for a quality Italian menu that doesn’t involve the words ‘Jamie’ or ‘Oliver’. They haven’t been open long, but God damn, they know what they’re doing ?? Bellucci can be found just above Ryan’s Bar at Australia Square. Get the pasta! ?? #bellucci #pasta #wednesday #humpday #australiasquare A post shared by T H E F (@the_f_au) on Jul 4, 2018 at 1:37am PDT Having just inherited the chef, Teofilo Nobrega, from Potts Point’s Fratelli Paradiso, Bellucci does carbs and it does them damn well. It’s the reason owner George Nahas, wanted to have him on-board. Couple an established menu with quality wine – and friendly staff who know how to talk about and suggest it – and it’s easy to see why the few-month-old establishment is already making waves. The rotunda is unassuming and still so new, there is more to come for the modestly styled, but big-flavoured terrace venue. With wine-lined walls and a kitchen that is capable of catering to a modest few hundreds of sparsely spread out diners, Bellucci offers a comfortable and approachable Italian eatery without the fanfare. Bellucci does the works from pastries and breakfast dishes, stretching into afternoon aperitivi, wood-fired pizzas and its signature pastas, catering to everyone at any time of day. The stand out dish? You must try the pappardelle of ragu di agnelo, fermented chilli, rosemary and salt. Bellucci is open breakfast and lunch Mon-Fri; dinner Wed-Fri. Level 5, Terrace… Read More
