Make it creamy: Creams’ new round of fabulously-flamboyant desserts

Creams indulgence doughnut box 3

For everything sugary, carby and delicious, there’s only really one name you need to know in London: Creams. Encircling the city, Creams are the place to go for fabulously flamboyant desserts and sweet treats, celebrating all things vibrant, colourful and fun. Think gelato, loaded waffles and sky-high shakes, to crepes, cheesecakes and even savoury choices, there’s something for everyone on the menu. Currently, they’re pumping the doughnut option from November onwards, that rival even the biggest names in doughnut providores around town (sorry Doughnut Time and Crosstown!). Add on top of that the usual Creams staples like shakes, crepes, sundaes and the rest of it, you’ve got a whole menu that spreads the whole gamut of things your dentist would slap you for eating. Coupled with fluffy waffles, sweet-but-not-sickeningly-so cookie doughs and generous scoops of icecream finished with lashings of sauces and syrups, Creams cafes are the producers of some of the best desserts known to man – and it’s easy to see why. “We’re even more proud of our commitment to diversity. People matter more to us than anything else (even ice-cream) and we open our arms to everyone both as customers and in our cafe teams”, they say. Like desserts, like philosophy! How to do Thanksgiving in London

Food salad Thanksgiving

London isn’t America, but that doesn’t mean we can’t adopt some of their customs, right? Especially when they involve eating. Thanksgiving is the US tradition of giving thanks for what you’ve got and a retrospective look on the year that was before the onslaught of Christmas, so, doing the same in London can only be a good thing. To get into the spirit of the beloved American tradition, popular London restaurants Riding House Café (Fitzrovia) and Rail House Café (Victoria), welcome their Thanksgiving feast on Thursday 28th November. They’ll be hosting banquets, complete with seasonal cocktails called The Ginger Pilgrim made from bourbon, honey, lemon and ginger. This’ll partner with a slow roasted Norfolk bronze turkey cooked in herb butter, ideal for sharing. Pair it all with cornbread and sausage stuffing; maple-buttered sweet potatoes; mac and cheese; and creamed corn casserole, vegetables like traditional glazed sprouts with smoky bacon; and green beans with praline. Calvados gravy and cranberry and confit orange relish will also be served alongside this inviting feast. All for only £40 per person for lunch and dinner on Thursday 28 November 2019, the question is why not?

Boozy summer slushies are in London at Mr Fogg’s Tavern

Mr Foggs Tavern

Mr Fogg’s does holistic experiences and drinks well. There’s a lot more about walking into one of the globetrotter’s venues that makes them memorable, too, but this summer, it’s the spiked slushies that are worth raving about. Mr Fogg’s Tavern in Covent Garden, right in the centre of London, is celebrating summer with an elaborate floral display and Cointreau slushie cocktails. As the world gets hotter – thanks, climate change – the bar’s partnered with Cointreau and Mount Gay Rum to install a floral explosion alongside the new additions to the menu, on ’til the end of September. You literally can’t miss it. The joint’s been swathed in a blooming floral display featuring a striking door garland comprised of vivid sunflowers, orange and red roses and intertwined with foliage. To that end, warm up your senses with the floral arrangement and then knock ’em dead with cocktails like Caribbean Ice-Land (£8) featuring Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum, Angostura Bitters, sugar syrup, coconut and pineapple. If tequila’s your thing, be tempted by the Cointreau Row Row Your Boat (£8), made up of Cointreau, Cabrito Blanco Tequila, Bobb’s Abbots Bitters, sugar and lime juice. Get them – and the whole Mr Fogg’s experience – at Mr Fogg’s Tavern, 58 St Martin’s Lane, WC2N 4EA.

Eco-friendly apple brandy Avallen Calvados hits London

Harlow Richmond cocktail

If there’s one thing the world needs more of, it’s bees. So when Tim Etherinton-Judge and Stephanie Jordan discovered a world where orchards, cows, birds and bees work in perfect harmony, they knew they could do something that improved the sustainability of the world of alcohol as well as the world of bees. Together, they’ve launched the new, sustainable brandy label Avallen Calvados; purposed to be delicious and drinkable, as well as promote the message to #beepositive. Born out of a shared passion for traditional spirits and sustainable products, it’s been founded with the intention to re-ignite Calvados, one of the world’s great brandies, and have a positive impact on the wild bee populations in the markets where it is sold.  Their program helps bee populations around the world with their #BeePositive message by donating €0,50 of profit for every bottle sold to organisations dedicated to restoring and protecting the most important of insects as well as a commitment to plant 100,000 wild flowers over the next 3 years across the globe in aid of helping our forever declining bee population. The new batch is fresh, fruity and proudly apple forward in its flavour profile. Aged in French oak barrels for two years and bottled at 40%, it’s a drop made from nothing but real apples, water and time. See more about Avallen Calvados at their website or head to sustainable London bar, Nine Lives to try it for yourself.

Karl Lagerfeld lives on: German Gymnasium pays tribute with new cocktail

German Gymnasium Karl Lagerfeld 1

The memory of German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld lives well and truly on, right in the heart of London. Just next door to the brand new development that is the Coal Drops Yard – where you’ll find the super comfy Morty & Bob’s – outside the gate of Kings Cross St. Pancras, the German Gymnasium is putting on a spread even the world’s most notoriously cynnical man of fashion would approve of. They’ve decked the place out in flowers, fashion and a likeness of the man with his signature sunglasses, too, all to celebrate the introduction of a new cocktail, The Karl, to the menu. The talented bar team have worked with Moët & Chandon to create a one-off Rosé Brockman’s gin, Lillet rosé and house strawberry liquor. The brightly coloured liquid takes inspiration from Lagerfeld’s far-reaching vibrant impact on the fashion industry. Check it out and make a booking at the German Gymnasium website.
