BUDS plant-based burgers look, feel and taste just like a regular beef burger

buds burgers

Sydney’s newest plant-based burger bar, BUDS is, giving Sydney-siders comfort food like no other. The 100% vegan BUDS Burger Bar dark kitchen pop up is the latest newcomer to the Sydney foodie scene and is now available on Uber Eats. Hooray! What’s a dark kitchen? Dark kitchens, also known as virtual restaurants, are taking the COVID-impacted foodservice industry by storm, allowing businesses to cook meals solely to be ordered via delivery apps. It’s a win for all, with foodservice owners utilising empty kitchens that have been left dormant from forced COVID closures and foodies being served up new, innovative menus from the comfort of their homes. Taste has always been at the forefront of solving the challenge between making a conscious and nutritious plant-based patty, and one that is comparable to any non-plant-based alternative. In a blind tasting study done by Sensory Solutions amongst a mixture of meat-eaters, vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians, comparing BUDS Burger with the international market leader Beyond Meat, BUDS came out on top as the first preference option of consumers. BUDS Burger Bar is launching with six different burgers to choose from and going bun to bun with this American giant, proving that the Aussie burgers are better! The burger options include BBQ, Chilli, Chimi, Classic, Double and Truffle options, all with vegan cheese, sauces, lettuce and a bun sourced from Australian providores. Tastes like meat!  BUDS Burgers are designed to look, feel, taste and perform like a regular beef burger, yet are designed to be a healthier choice, especially for those… Read More

Margarita mix ESTAMOS is here to help shake things up at home

Estamos margarita mix

Spring is in the air, the days are starting to get longer and it’s the perfect time to enjoy a refreshing margarita! While margaritas with friends by the beach is something we can hopefully look forward to in the very near future, a temporary solution is homemade margaritas made with tangy and unprocessed margarita mix ESTAMOS.  What makes ESTAMOS stand out from other margarita mixes? The key to a perfect margarita is fresh and quality ingredients, which underpins this brand’s philosophy.  The birth of ESTAMOS Pre-lockdown, ESTAMOS founder Britney Chu identified a gap in the market when a few friends organised a margarita night and a guest turned up with a cheap and cheerful store-bought margarita mix. Not enamoured by the thought of drinking the sugar-filled, neon-coloured beverage, the group ended up going to the market for fresh produce and spent the evening squeezing limes, on a quest for fresh margaritas. “There was nowhere to get a fresh margarita mix that wasn’t packed with added sugars, preservatives, or ingredients you couldn’t pronounce. So, I decided to test my theory and bought garden-fresh ingredients, hand-squeezed the mixers and filled them in glass bottles from the local discount bazaar,” said Britney.  The following weekend, Britney announced on Instagram she was making local deliveries for fresh margarita mixes and was pleasantly surprised by the high demand. By December 2020, ESTAMOS was made available at BWS Bondi Beach. This guilt-free mix is now available in five stores and online, where customers can enjoy local delivery within 10km of Sydney. … Read More

Tasty solutions to cool down and refresh yourself in this heat

Frozen cocktail drink

Summer is lovely; the flowers are blooming, days are longer, people tend to be out and about more. Due to the recent pandemic, this summer maybe even more appreciated than ever. However, we’ll soon remember that even though it’s lovely to be out in the heat and sunshine, we need to keep hydrated. With this in mind, this article provides some tasty solutions to help you remain cool and refreshed on those hot summer days. Freezing fruit We all know how nice it is to have fruit, especially if they’re full of juice and goodness. But have you considered freezing fruits? Slicing up lemons and limes before putting them into freezer bags, or putting things like grapes, seedless berries, pomegranates, and orange segments into your freezer will set you up for many a sweet treat. For instance, if you want a fizzy drink with an extra twist, you can get out a few frozen lemon and lime slices, and dunk them in it. Swirl them about to release their flavor, and you’ve got a super-tasty drink. These even taste great in the water. Grapes, pomegranates, and orange segments are great to munch on as an afternoon snack in warm weather. They’re so refreshing and are a great way to fill that hunger gap in a healthy way, whilst also keeping you refreshed. Frozen pomegranates in particular are wonderful to sprinkle over ice cream for that extra-cold crunch. Smoothies Smoothies are a great way to keep cool and refreshed, and they’re so versatile, meaning any fruit… Read More

Davidson Plum Gin Jam is a thing and yes, you need it in your life

brookie's gin jam

Cape Byron Distillery, home of the award-winning Brookie’s Gin, has officially launched its Byron Slow GinJam.  From the production of Brookie’s Slow Gin, a rare and one-of-a-kind gin, with native Davidson Plums, the Distillery is left with kilograms of gin infused Davidson Plums. With sustainability at the core of everything they do, the Distillery decided to repurpose these plums with fresh Davidson Plums to create a truly unique flavoured jam. The result is a perfectly balanced tart, sweet and tangy jam that is vegan, gluten and alcohol-free. “We are blessed with an abundance of incredible native Australian produce in our own backyard in Byron, and we couldn’t be prouder that we can have fun with such unique flavours in our products. The Davidson Plum, the jewel of our rainforest, is packed with an array of vitamins and minerals. It is a true ‘bushfood’ delicacy, and we couldn’t be more stoked that people can now enjoy it in a jam,” says Eddie Brook, Co-Founder of Brookie’s Gin.  “I believe that native produce, and what is unique to our land, should be at the core of our food and drink culture. For us, it’s about constantly learning and having fun with the different flavours Australia has to offer! With everything we do, we always ensure sustainable practices and environmental consideration is our top priority and we’re excited that this resulted in a Gin Jam.”  Brookie’s Byron Slow GinJam can be spread on your favourite bread, scone or cracker. It’s also the perfect addition to cheese platters and… Read More
