New Mardi Gras ball for 2024 in Sydney

Johnnie Walker pride debutante

In an extraordinary move resonating with its longstanding dedication to progress, Johnnie Walker is championing the strength and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community by hosting a Debutante Ball for First Timers at the 2024 Sydney Mardi Gras. This groundbreaking event aims to redefine the traditional concept of the ‘Debutante Ball,’ presenting a grand space full of pomp and ceremony at the iconic Darlinghurst venue, Kinselas, providing an inclusive space for all queer identities.

First Timers at Mardi Gras will have the chance to participate alongside trailblazers of the LGBTQIA+ community in the Debutante Ball, making their debut into thousands from their community. This unique initiative is designed to inspire those who have, until now, been unable to attend the renowned festival. Prospective Debutantes are simply required to share their personal journey and reasons for choosing to attend their first Mardi Gras this year.

The event will be enriched with the presence of Australian singer and actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who will set the stage ablaze with her top hits, while also sharing her own story as a proud new member of the queer community. Natalie stated, “Being able to attend my first Mardi Gras, surrounded with so much love, joy and acceptance is special to me, and what’s even more special is knowing that I get to share this memorable experience with other First Timers of diverse queer identities.”

In attendance will also be LGBTQIA+ community trailblazers and Mardi Gras custodians, including original first-timer Robyn Kennedy who graced the first-ever Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in 1978. Melissa Barry, Johnnie Walker Marketing Manager, expressed, “We’re honoured to give our Debutantes a memorable experience with a performance from the incredible Natalie Bassingthwaighte and are excited to host the winners of this incredible competition.”

The Mardi Gras Debutante Ball by Johnnie Walker is a bold testament to the brand’s commitment towards fostering diversity and progress, truly embodying its ‘Keep Walking’ philosophy. The event promises to be a sparkling celebration of individuality, courage, and the vibrant spirit of the LGBTQIA+ community.
