Set to open its doors on 13 July, Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla is poised to redefine the dining landscape in the Shire. This latest addition to the Hurricane’s collection marks the fifth venture by esteemed restaurateur Tony Teixeira. Boasting a stunning interior and a sophisticated Mediterranean-style menu, this expansive venue, complete with a restaurant, bar, outdoor seating, and private dining room, will accommodate up to 300 patrons.

The establishment, situated opposite South Cronulla Beach, has been meticulously planned to accommodate diverse dining experiences including casual post-beach lunches, cocktails and snacks at the bar, and special occasion meals in the elegantly designed restaurant or private dining room.

Award-winning designers from Luchetti Krelle have truly outdone themselves with the unique interior of Hurricane’s Cronulla. The space draws inspiration from the coastal surroundings, featuring a grotto-like setting of pale sculptural curves and arches contrasted against sandstone, accented with shades of nutmeg, paprika, and olive. The venue is divided into distinct sections, including an island bar and an open kitchen, all flowing seamlessly into each other. A concierge desk with sculptural legs by Hugh McCarthy and cantilevered shelves in the bar area that extend from a central “mast” like sails further accentuate the space’s unique design.

Tony and renowned chef Justin North from Concept Hospitality have spent the past year perfecting a Mediterranean-inspired menu that not only highlights Hurricane’s classics but also introduces new dishes tailor-made for this beachside location. “We wanted to create a local, casual coastal Mediterranean grill and bar that highlights the Hurricane’s classics, but also introduces some new dishes specifically for the beachside location,” says Justin North.

With an emphasis on the coastal location, the a la carte menu features a wealth of Australian seafood from a raw bar, starters like grilled king prawns and Hervey Bay scallops with lime, miso and garlic burnt butter, and a spectacular seafood platter and whole lobster with herb butter for mains. Signature ribs and steaks from the grill, along with a dry-aged programme, and a variety of cuts including a Great Southern Pinnacle pasture-fed scotch fillet, a 1.5 kilo Tomahawk steak and a 400-day grain-fed Tajima wagyu beef sirloin, are also available.

To complement the menu, industry sommelier and consultant Stéphane Pommier has curated a list of over 80 European, American, and Australian wines. The drink menu also features an impressive selection of classic cocktails with a twist, a signature martini collection, and an artisanal gin and tonic offering using spirits from local distilleries.

When Tony acquired the site in 2021, he envisioned creating a unique offering for Cronulla. “It is such a special community,” Tony reflects. “I love the beachside location, which is a perfect fit for a Mediterranean coastal grill.” Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla, located at Shop 1 / 49 Gerrale Street NSW 2230 (opposite South Cronulla Beach), is now open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
