National Margarita Day is upon us (22 February), so if the tequila based bev is for you in all its tart, zingy or chilli incarnations, then listen up. Here are some recipes to try:
And remember, don’t forget the Cointreau.
The Original Margarita:
Ingredients:
- 30mL Cointreau
- 30mL Blanco Tequila
- 30mL Fresh Lime Juice
Method:
- Make a salt rim on your glass
- Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice
- Shake vigorously until well chilled
- Strain into a Margarita glass
- Garnish with a lime wheel
The Berry Margarita:
Ingredients:
- 30mL Cointreau
- 30mL Blanco Tequila
- 30mL Fresh Lime Juice
- 4 Fresh Blackberries
Method:
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker
- Add ice and shake until well-chilled
- Strain into a chilled Old Fashioned glass
- Garnish with a blackberry
The Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita
Ingredients:
- 30mL Cointreau
- 30mL Blanco Tequila
- 30mL Fresh Lime Juice
- 3 slices Cucumber, plus ribbons for garnish
- 2 slices Jalapeño, plus extra for garnish
Method:
- Muddle cucumber slices in a shaker
- Add remaining ingredients to shaker
- Add ice and shake well until well-chilled
- Strain into a chilled Old Fashioned glass over ice
- Garnish with a cucumber ribbon and a few jalapeño slices
The Coconut Ginger Margarita
Ingredients:
- 30mL Cointreau
- 30mL Blanco Tequila
- 30mL Fresh Lime Juice
- 30mL Coconut Water
- 5 rounds Ginger
Method:
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker
- Add ice and shake well until well-chilled
- Strain into a chilled Old Fashioned glass over ice
- Garnish with a lime peel or candied ginger
