We test drove the Chery Tiggo 8 Promax SUV recently and here’s the findings…
Designed by a powerhouse team from the Chery Advanced Design Centre in Raunheim, Germany, the Journeo merges rugged off-road capabilities with the kind of comfort usually reserved for the first-class cabin of an airline. The New Journeo isn’t just about driving from point A to B; it’s about transforming the way we experience travel.
“With the New Journeo Concept, we are taking up the challenge of making mobility even smarter, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly,” says Jochen Tueting, Managing Director of the design centre. “This vehicle is more than just a car – it is Travel 4.0; our vision for a sustainable and connected future.”
Transforming Travel with Groundbreaking Features
The New Journeo Concept offers plenty to get excited about. Its interior boasts a futuristic, flexible layout that’s as practical as it is luxurious. Imagine a high-end mobile living room and you’ve got the vibe.
- Rotating Front Seats: The 180-degree rotating front seats and console glide smoothly on cleverly concealed underfloor rails, turning the cabin into an adaptable lounge. Where you’re sitting is entirely up to you.
- Extendable Rear Bench Seat: A 40 cm extendable rear bench transforms into a luxurious daybed, creating a spacious, open lounge area with uninterrupted panoramic views through the glass tailgate. Fancy a nap overlooking the great outdoors? Sorted.
- Modular Front Luggage Compartment: Up front, there’s a multi-use area with a mobile kitchen, variable bench seating, and, yes, a BBQ. Because what’s a road trip without the smell of something sizzling on the grill?
Style Meets Sustainability
The one-piece body of the Journeo isn’t all about looking futuristic (though it does!). Its design enhances aerodynamic efficiency while maximising interior space. The floating A/C pillars and intelligent roof rack add a sense of lightness and sophistication, while the retractable tailgate and movable instrument panel extend the cabin length by an impressive 150 cm, further boosting versatility.
Inside, it’s a haven of understated luxury. The minimalist dashboard features a yoke-style steering wheel (very spaceship chic) and hidden air vents that maintain the clean aesthetic. Mint-green décor elements and a suede-lined floor create a calming, modern interior that’s both stylish and welcoming.
Power and Performance Without Compromise
None of this innovation would matter if the Journeo didn’t deliver when it comes to power and efficiency, but this concept vehicle is no slouch. Under the hood is Chery’s seventh-generation Kunpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM system, pairing a 2.0-litre turbo engine with an electric motor. The range? A jaw-dropping 2,500 km. That’s Sydney to Perth with room to spare.
The vehicle also comes equipped with Chery’s CPilot 5.0 advanced driving assistance system. This tech takes navigation and safety to a whole new level. It can intelligently scan surroundings for smooth manoeuvres, offer parking assistance in urban areas, and even adjust shock absorbers for unpaved roads. Whatever the terrain, the Journeo is prepped and ready.
