TEDxSydney Youth 2024: pioneering change in Parramatta
TEDxSydney Youth is set to return to Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre on 29 August, in collaboration with Presenting Partner, the University of Sydney, following a successful 2023 event. A true celebration of Australian creativity and thought leadership, TEDxSydney Youth spotlights the next generation of creative and innovative young minds. This year’s event will feature an inspiring first line-up of talented speakers and performers, each ready to share their unique perspectives and ideas with the overarching theme of ‘CTRL > SHIFT’.
Each TEDxSydney Youth talk will delve into how the next generation plans to redefine the future, tackling issues that the adults of today haven’t been able to solve. From the spiralling cost of living to the existential threat posed by climate change, these young visionaries will offer their insights and hopes for a world they will soon control. As they prime themselves to take the reins, the event offers a platform to see the impending societal transformation through their eyes.
The bright minds at this year’s event include notable individuals such as:
- Hannah Ferguson: Co-founder and CEO of independent news commentary platform Cheek Media Co., and co-host of the news and culture podcast Big Small Talk.
- Nivaaz Sehmbh: First-generation Australian Punjabi and founder of Sukara Tech and Beyond Besties, embodying the spirit of a startup unicorn.
- Sarah Williams: 22-year-old Awabakal woman, founder and CEO of What Were You Wearing Australia, a non-profit organisation providing education, awareness, and advocacy on sexual violence.
- Sharath Mahendran: Civil engineering student known for his Sydney-based YouTube channel “Building Beautifully” with over 41,000 subscribers and nearly 5 million total views.
- Elliot Ulm: Better known as elliotisacoolguy, he has amassed over 500,000 followers on Instagram and YouTube, depicting his honest experience of the graphic design industry.
- James Parr: Award-winning multidisciplinary model, speaker, event host, and passionate champion for disability visibility, drawing on his personal journey as an amputee.
- Jason Zhu He: University of Sydney student and co-Founder of Ikigai Network, a video platform offering bite-sized career advice for high school and university students.
