Where to go in Sydney for true blue Aussie food

TheAussieSydney

Whether you’re hosting a guest from overseas or just feel like embracing Australiana style food, we’ve found the best spot to spend your time: The Australian Heritage Hotel. Situated in the heart of The Rocks, Sydney, this heritage listed site ticks all the boxes of modern Australian vibes. Pub? Tick. Endless choice of local craft beers? Tick. Rooftop? Tick. Unique menu of classic with a twist? Tick. Good vibes? Tick tick. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating and is the perfect place to spend a summer evening admiring the wonderful city that is Sydney. Their craft beer fridge is very well stocked with latest releases and over 130 stand out brews, they’re dog friendly at street level and they also host pub games during the week for a bit of fun. Perhaps the real stand out is the menu though. Their signature pizza, the Coat of Arms, boasts both emu and kangaroo and is topped with a tasty lemon myrtle mayo. If that’s not enough native animals for you, there is also a crocodile pizza! The kitchen strives to use native plants and peppers to flavour the food, while also staying true to the classic pub favourites (yes, there is a chicken schnitty). If you’re after something on the healthier side, the salmon fillet is divine and there are plenty of salads to choose from. There’s truly something for everyone, especially the dessert which features a lamington ice cream sandwich and smashed pavolva (shhh, don’t tell New Zealand). Open 7 days and 7 nights,… Read More

Glamourous Basement Steakhouse The Cut Serves Up Elevated, Yet Accessible Fare

Cut Steakhouse London 1

Not immediately visible to the untrained eye, beneath the surface of The Rocks in Sydney lies a sophisticated underground steakhouse that doubles as a speakeasy come nighttime. Located on Argyle street, The Cut serves Australian meat and seafood in a refurbished space; designed by Luchetti Krelle, the bar and restaurant draws upon the building’s colonial history, setting an atmosphere reminiscent of a film noir through moody lighting and elegant furniture – think leather booths, marble tables and a copper-topped bar – ensconced within bare stone walls and exposed timber beams. The old school decor is aptly complemented by old school service, with The Cut offering tableside cocktails in the form of a smoked negroni, gin martini, and vodka martini. The trio are bottled in-house, before being poured and garnished tableside. Alternatively, for a special imbibing experience, diners can opt for one of the establishment’s ‘high roller’ cocktails – such as the Vieux Carré or the Tipperary – which are made with rare and vintage spirits and offer a taste of the 1930s prohibition era. Classics like an Old Fashioned, Revolver, and Boulevardier are also on the menu, but with a barrel-aged twist. Owned by Neil Perry’s Rockpool Dining Group, The Cut’s dining offerings naturally impress. The restaurant’s must-order dish is the prime rib; dijon-crusted rib temptingly slides off the bone after being slow-roasted for four hours. The dish is presented tableside from an antique silver and rosewood trolley, served with veal jus and horseradish cream. The Cut has diversified their menu through the addition of… Read More
