Sydney coffee brand Seven Miles launches recycling program in the right direction

To say that Australians “enjoy a cup of coffee” would be an understatement. We guzzle over six billion cups of coffee every year. Manly roaster, Seven Miles are not only committed to roasting the best but being the best in sustainability. Seven Miles has partnered with Terracycle on Australia’s first free-to-use coffee recycling program. The program allows consumers to recycle used coffee bags and coffee pods, free of charge. CEO of Seven Miles, Jenny Willits explains “everything we do is in the pursuit of exceptional coffee, and for us that includes the journey from bean to cup, and beyond. It is expected that the new sustainability initiatives at Seven Miles will reduce landfill levels by a whopping 16 tonnes over the next five years. When you think of Haymarket in Sydney, delicious Chinese dumplings and barbecued Peking duck probably springs to mind. But located on the fringes of bustling Chinatown is some of the most satisfying coffee you’ll find in town – at Chambers Fine Coffee.Who would’ve thought? The queue for takeaway coffee is evidence that this the go-to cafe for locals working or studying in the precinct for their daily dose of caffeine. As the name suggests, Chambers Fine Coffee is committed to brewing a decent hot beverage, which isn’t just limited to coffee, but also includes trending favourites such as organic matcha lattes, turmeric lattes and dirty chai lattes – the perfect belly warmer for those cold autumn days. For the warmer months, Chambers also offers delicious frappes, milkshakes and smoothies. Chambers also offers an all day breakfast menu with old time favourites such as eggs benedict with smoked salmon, accompanied with slices of satisfyingly crunchy toasted sourdough. But then who can go past a finger-licking burger with chips for lunch, which also includes a vegetarian version with grilled haloumi, eggplant, tomato and lettuce? The menu is extensive but not overwhelming (because that’s the last thing you want when you want to sit down to an uncomplicated, casual meal), and guarantees to cater to all cravings at a reasonable price point. In 2025, the art world will witness a remarkable event at the National Gallery as “Siena: The Rise of Painting 1300?1350” opens its doors in spring, marking the 200th anniversary of the institution. This exhibition promises an unprecedented reunion of paintings by some of the most celebrated Italian artists of the 14th century, artworks that have been scattered across the globe for centuries. Highlighting this unique collection are masterpieces in gold ground, many originally part of larger compositions, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the innovative spirit of Western painting tradition from this era. The spotlight of the exhibition is the coming together of several panels from the revolutionary double-sided altarpiece, the Maestà, painted by Duccio di Buoninsegna for the cathedral in Siena. Recognized as the first double-sided altarpiece in Western art, this narrative shift in art will be showcased along with other significant pieces from the ensemble.
