The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival is back from 13 February to 1 March 2026, promising a season of pride, protest and celebration like so many years past.
Now in its 48th year, the Festival unveils its new theme, ECSTATICA, a powerful call to gather, connect, and transform individual joy into a collective movement.
“Ecstatica is what happens when you find your people, community, and family,” said Interim CEO Jesse Matheson. “It’s the joy you can see, hear, touch, and celebrate together. In 2026, we’re inviting everyone to shape their Parade floats, events, and gatherings around this shared frequency.”
Highlights of the 2026 Festival
- Mardi Gras Parade | Saturday, 28 February 2026
The world-famous Parade will light up Oxford Street, Flinders Street, and Anzac Parade with up to 200 floats and over 12,000 marchers. It’s a dazzling celebration of pride, resilience, and joy, embodying the spirit of ECSTATICA. Parade applications are now open at mardigras.org.au. - Fair Day | Sunday, 15 February 2026
Victoria Park will come alive with market stalls, food, live performances, and family-friendly fun. It’s Sydney’s biggest LGBTQIA+ community gathering and the perfect way to kick off the Festival. Stall applications are open via fairday.stalls@mardigrasarts.org.au.
Co-Chairs Kathy Pavlich and Mits Delisle describe ECSTATICA as a reminder that joy is not just a feeling but an act of resistance and renewal. “For almost half a century, Mardi Gras has been a place where our communities gather, celebrate, and be seen. ECSTATICA carries that legacy forward as we march towards the 50th anniversary in 2028.”
With the full program set to be revealed soon, the 2026 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of community, resilience, and joy.
