Neutral Bay’s fantastic dining scene has just welcomed an exciting new addition.
Randwick favourite Bombay Bloomers has opened its second home on Grosvenor Street, bringing its unique and celebrated take on Indian cuisine to the North Shore. If you love food that’s packed with authentic flavour but skips the heavy-handed spicing, you are in for a treat.
There’s a new Indian restaurant in Newtown, too if that’s closer to home.
Since taking over the Randwick kitchen in 2022, Chef and Owner Varinder Singh has built a loyal following for his beautifully balanced and fresh dishes. His style is all heart, shaped by the treasured lessons he learned cooking alongside his grandmother. It’s Indian food cooked with genuine care and precision.
“Neutral Bay felt like the natural next step for Bombay Bloomers,” says Singh. “It has such a vibrant dining scene, and we wanted to bring our style of Indian food here, dishes that are full of flavour, never overpowering, and always cooked with care.”
A Menu Cooked with Heart
What makes Bombay Bloomers stand out is its commitment to flavour integrity. Forget shared curry bases; here, every single curry is made individually to let its unique character shine.
The menu is full of incredible dishes, including some must-try standouts:
- Nut-Free Butter Chicken: A family recipe that’s creamy, comforting, and wonderfully allergy-friendly.
- Lamb Rogan Josh: Slow-cooked to perfection and layered with aromatic Kashmiri spices.
- Bombay Bloomers Thali: A generous feast for one, offering a selection of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries served with rice, raita, and fresh garlic naan.
And you absolutely must save room for dessert! The indulgent Gulab Jamun features soft milk dumplings fried until golden and soaked in a fragrant rosewater syrup. To complement the food, the drinks list adds its own sense of theatre, with playful cocktails that weave in Indian flavours to spark conversation.
A Story of Passion and Patience
The restaurant itself is a gorgeous mix of tradition and modern Sydney polish. You’ll find food served in stunning bronze and brass tableware, a nod to Singh’s upbringing. The space is brought to life with deep greens, warm gold accents, and touches of pink, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
Chef Singh’s journey is a true story of persistence and passion. He started as a dishwasher at Maya Sweets in Surry Hills and worked his way up, eventually spending six years as Head Chef at the iconic South Dowling Sandwiches. In 2022, he took a leap of faith and took over Bombay Bloomers, transforming it into one of Randwick’s most beloved Indian restaurants.
“My grandmother taught me to cook with patience and balance, to let ingredients shine and never hide behind too much spice,” Singh reflects. “That lesson is still at the heart of Bombay Bloomers today.”
