Melbourne’s The Espy is reopening this Friday in St Kilda

The Espy is reopening in Melbourne on Friday 23 November and the southeast is about to implode.

It ripped the heart right from your chest when they closed their doors a few years ago, but it’s back and better than ever, albeit a lot less grungy than before.

Complete with The Basement stage, public bar, main bar, garden terrace and Gershwin Room, the venue’s new restaurant, Mya Tiger will throw its doors open in early December.

In true ‘St Kilda redevelopment’ style, almost hand-in-hand with the restoration and take-over of the iconic (and horrid) Gatwick Hotel by The Block earlier this year, The Esplanade’s return signals good things for the suburb.

“The Espy has always been our ultimate pub dream. But it’s also an awesome responsibility. Every day, we’ve uncovered layers and layers of The Espy’s history that have absolutely blown us away”, says Doug Maskiell, co-founder of Sand Hill Road. “We know we’ll never truly own The Espy – that title belongs to the many thousands of people who have walked its staircases before us, and the many more thousands still to come”.
