Before you start planning a renovation project, there are some essential things to consider before you take the leap. It’s easy to get carried away trying to visualise what the overall outcome will look like. But, something to truly consider is whether it will add value in the long run. Unless you’re in your forever home, there’s a significant possibility that in time you will come to sell it. If that’s the case, then you’ll need to determine areas that will add the most value when its time to put it on the market.

That doesn’t mean you can’t put your own spin on things because after all, it is your home. But thinking about its resale opportunity also puts you in good stead to get the most for your asset when it’s time to choose another property. Revamp the kitchen

The kitchen is the hub of the home, and it’s one of the first things people look at when they’re buying a property. New kitchens can be a hefty investment, so it’s worth considering whether you need a full upgrade or a partial revamp. It might be that the décor is looking a little tired so new tiles and a lick of paint might do the trick. However, if it’s in need of some TLC, considering new fully installed units can completely rejuvenate the space. 

A fresh bathroom

The bathroom and separate toilets you have is another spot that can help to sell your home. Ok, so people don’t spend all their time in there. However, if you make the purchaser feel like they could sink into the tub in truly relaxing surroundings, you’re on to a winner. Again, bathroom suites can be expensive. But, it’s another opportunity to decide whether you need a complete refurbishment or small touch up. It’s incredible what a new bathroom suite and fresh paint can do to this space. Plus why not just add some houseplants that are able to live in slightly humid conditions, so they add a pop of colour to the room. 

Take care of the garden and outside spaces

What your property looks like from the outside gives off an instant impression of how the interior looks. It might sound shallow, but if the grass us unkempt and there’s mess lying around, it often gives off a negative impression of both property and owners. Your garden is a spot that you should be enjoying. However, it doesn’t have to look like a showpiece to stand out. Just keeping the grass cut, flowerbeds clear, and pathways tidy could do wonders for the space. Don’t forget to spruce up your entranceways, clear gutters and perhaps add a touch of paint to tired-looking exterior walls to make your property pop.
