Egypt and China start tourism roadshows to celebrate 5000 years of history

In January 2026, Egypt is taking significant strides to deepen its connection with one of its most vital tourism markets—China.

The Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA), under the leadership of CEO Ahmed Youssef, is hosting a series of high-impact roadshows in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. These events aim to foster collaboration with China’s travel trade and present Egypt’s refreshed tourism vision to key stakeholders.

A Strategic Push in China

Recognizing China as a pivotal market, the ETA is leveraging these roadshows to strengthen relationships with Chinese travel partners. The initiative aligns with Egypt’s broader tourism strategy, which emphasizes cultural heritage, diverse travel experiences, and sustainable growth. The roadshows will feature in-depth presentations, open discussions, and Q&A sessions, providing a platform for direct engagement between Egypt’s tourism leadership and Chinese industry professionals.

The events are scheduled as follows:

  • Beijing: January 12, 2026, at the Conrad Hotel Beijing
  • Shanghai: January 14, 2026, at The Langham Hotel Shanghai
  • Guangzhou: January 16, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza City Centre Guangzhou

Each session will include a keynote presentation by Ahmed Youssef, offering insights into Egypt’s tourism vision and opportunities for collaboration.

The Grand Egyptian Museum: A Cultural Milestone

A highlight of Egypt’s renewed tourism appeal is the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which officially opened on November 1, 2025. Situated near the iconic Pyramids of Giza, the GEM is the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization. It boasts over 57,000 artifacts, including the complete Tutankhamun collection displayed together for the first time. This cultural landmark is set to become a cornerstone of premium travel itineraries, particularly for Chinese visitors seeking immersive historical experiences.

Expanding Tourism Horizons

Egypt is diversifying its tourism offerings to cater to the evolving preferences of modern travelers. From cultural explorations along the Nile and visits to world-class museums to luxury resorts on the Red Sea, desert adventures, eco-tourism, wellness retreats, and spiritual journeys, the country provides a wide array of customizable experiences.

A Commitment to Sustainability and Growth

Guided by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Egypt’s tourism strategy prioritizes sustainable development, infrastructure enhancement, and quality improvements. Investments in airports, transportation, hospitality, and digital services are making the country more accessible to key markets like China while elevating the overall visitor experience. Sustainability initiatives further underscore Egypt’s dedication to responsible tourism, ensuring its major destinations remain vibrant and preserved for future generations.

Building Long-Term Partnerships

The China roadshows represent a significant step in Egypt’s efforts to engage with global markets. By fostering dialogue, sharing knowledge, and collaborating with stakeholders in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, Egypt aims to inspire innovative travel programs tailored to Chinese travelers. This initiative underscores Egypt’s commitment to creating long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with the Chinese travel industry.

With its unique blend of ancient heritage, modern hospitality, and sustainable tourism practices, Egypt invites Chinese travelers to embark on unforgettable journeys and discover a destination like no other.
