Those who travel the length and breadth of England visiting grounds in the Premier League will know some have been left behind in the last century.
However, a handful of clubs are looking to revamp their traditional homes, and in one case, have plans to move into an iconic new venue in the near future.
Liverpool leading the way
While many will still cling to the traditional settings of older football grounds, the need to keep up with the times and have venues that can cater to fans in 2021 is key. For some football clubs in the Premier League, they are looking to have the best of both worlds by renovating their current stadiums, as opposed to moving locations.
Liverpool have already done this with their historic Anfield Stadium, and they have already started work on adding another 7,000 seats to the ground. The Reds, who are 7/2 in the football betting odds to win the Premier League title this season, will see Anfield’s capacity grow to over 61,000 when the work is completed. Demand for tickets at Liverpool has always been high, and the club knows filling the extra capacity won’t be an issue.
Other clubs are looking to follow Liverpool’s lead, with Leeds United ready to expand their ground at Elland Road to 60,000. The Whites returned to the Premier League after a 16-year exodus last season, and the hierarchy have stated a few more years in the top flight will provide the funds to give Elland Road the revamp it needs.
Former Premier League champions Leicester City are also set to develop their home at the King Power Stadium and the surrounding area. The Foxes were down in the third tier of English football not that long ago, but a Premier League title and FA Cup trophy since, the East Midlands side are a real force now in the top flight. With plans to expand the ground, build a new hotel and create further facilities around the stadium, the King Power will be an impressive destination to visit.
Everton starting afresh
While some redevelop, others make the leap to a new location, and that’s exactly what Everton have decided to do. Goodison Park has been the home of the Toffees since 1982, with its initial construction costing just £3,000. However, Everton are set to move on, with their Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium to be completed in time for the start of the 2024-25 season.
The new ground’s capacity is set for 52,000 but if demand is high, the club could look to expand to 62,000 in the future. It’s an exciting time for Everton, who will be looking to attract more fans and top players to this new stadium in the coming years.
The Premier League is regarded as one of the top football competitions in the world, with no expense spared in delivering the best product on the field. Some grounds have fallen behind, but the exciting work to develop and build new stadia, looks set to take the Premier League to an even higher level.
