The new and improved meat snack: biltong

Biltong on a table

We have all heard about biltong and the fantastic health benefits that come from eating this tasty snack. It is delicious and easy to cook with, but most of all, it is one of the healthiest snacks to eat if you are watching your weight.

Sticking to a healthy diet and staying active has become very popular in social media culture. We have become so reliant on finding new things online and trying new recipes that are being recommended to us by the popular crowd that we simply trust the recipes fed to us.

As we all know, the importance of protein in our diets has increased due to environmental and physical damage. Exercising can hurt your body if you do not do it correctly, but protein in your diet can help you rebuild the muscle and regenerate the cells.

Well, in the spirit of providing the culture with healthy snacks and creating new recipes, here is a look at one of the best biltong recipes for the health-conscious:

Veggie sticks with Biltong Pate:

Ingredients

Carrots, cut into thin sticks

Celery, but into thin sticks

Baby corn

Baby marrow, sliced vertically

Pate Mix

100g soft sliced beef without the fat, finely grated or diced

100g low-fat cream cheese

2tbsp of  Worcestershire sauce

¼ tsp of coriander

¼ tsp of Garlic

2 tbsp Chopped onion

Salt

Pepper

Method

Place the biltong, cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, coriander, onion and garlic onto a bowl and, using a handheld blender, mix until it makes a smooth paste. Make sure that all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed until it becomes creamy.

You can add salt and pepper to the mix according to your taste.

Once you have completed blending the ingredients, scoop it over into a serving bowl, and use it as a dip for your sliced vegetables.

You can also add melba toast or french baguettes as an option for a dinner party instead of the usual canapes. It’s delicious as a snack or on toast as a meal.

This recipe is a great recipe for anyone who loves to snack consistently and simply cannot keep their hands out of their bag of biltong. It is perfect for kids who are otherwise reluctant to eat vegetables or a snack you can enjoy at the desk if you do not have the time to get up and grab lunch. This snack is healthy and tasty and can be made in larger quantities and left in the fridge for up to seven days.

Biltong as a snack

Finding creative ways to serve dishes for guests or exciting ways to prepare meals can be tedious for anyone who does not have the time to brainstorm new cooking ideas. Moms especially find it annoying to have full lunch boxes returned when the snacks they have supplied the children for the day come home untouched.

Being creative is the only option available, and biltong makes doing that easy and affordable. You can enjoy it on its own, or you can dip it into the pate you prepared. Your guests will love it too, and it will save you from serving overpriced treats because this is delicious and affordable.
