Lifestyle and fashion – it’s okay to be you!

Even in this world where cultural norms are no longer quite as important as they once were, there are times when you are reluctant to step away from tradition. This is true not only of the lifestyle you lead but also of how you express your sense of fashion. Why not step away from what you believe is expected of you so that you can live life unencumbered by stress and regrets? It’s okay to be you so let’s tell the world just who you are.

Expressing Your Inner Being Through Fashion

This might be the thing which has given you the most stress in your everyday life. You obviously have to conform to dress codes on the job if any have been established, but away from the office you really are free to be you. Choose the styles that feel right for you and if you are tired of being locked into the gender thing, it’s okay to step away from that as well!

Are you aware that there are trendy designers who cater to a rather unisex audience? For example, one prominent Japanese designer, Rei Kawakubo, has an amazing line of fragrances created for just such a purpose. Her avant-garde Comme des Garçons Perfumes range, which can be found on sites like SSENSE, can be worn by anyone of any gender. This is where you’ll find recent offerings from leading designers.  If it’s listed on SSENSE, you’ll know it’s trending.

Lifestyle in the 21st Century

Your mother probably always warned you that you will be judged by the company you keep or the way in which you live your life. This may still be true to some extent in certain circles but it’s becoming more and more acceptable to venture out into the unknown. Perhaps you grew up in a home that could have been featured in magazines. The décor was stylishly in good taste and everything was tidy and sparkling clean.

This doesn’t mean you have to conform to that way of living if it doesn’t suit your own personal lifestyle. So what if you have a mismatched lot of furniture you’ve collected along the way. If you are comfortable in your surroundings, your own home, that’s really all that matters, isn’t it?

Addressing the Fear of Opening Up

One of the biggest impediments to opening up to being just who you are is a fear of what others might think of you. Here again, does it really matter? If someone is going to judge you for the clothes you wear or the décor in your home, they aren’t important anyway. Are they? really can’t be afraid to open up with your lifestyle or sense of fashion because true friends will love you just the way you are.

By limiting yourself to following trends set by others you are imposing a huge amount of tension on yourself in a world already stressful enough. Yes, you have to abide by the rules at work but at home and play you really are free to be you.
