The outback music fest you wish you heard about sooner
Is it Coachella or Burning Man? No and thank god! This is an Australian music festival done in Oz for Aussies. And we love it.
In just under five years, the Mundi Mundi Bash has cemented itself as one of Australia’s most iconic music festivals, earning a prestigious Gold Award in recognition of its meteoric rise.
Festival founder and Outback Music Festival Group Managing Director Greg Donovan expressed a mix of pride and disbelief at the accolade, which places the event ahead of industry heavyweights like the Deni Ute Muster (silver) and Bluesfest Byron Bay (bronze).
“We’re thrilled to receive this Gold Award. We’re the new kids on the block in terms of how long we’ve been around – so to come out on top is a real honour,” Donovan said. Reflecting on the festival’s humble beginnings, he added, “It feels like only yesterday that we stood in a remote, red dirt goat paddock on the beautiful Mundi Mundi Plains with Kate Ceberano and key Tourism officials to share our vision and officially launch the event – and now here we are with gold-medal recognition. It feels a little surreal.”
Donovan was quick to credit the festival’s success to its dedicated team, hardworking volunteers, and the loyal “Bashers” who have supported the event since its inception. “Thank you from the bottom of our dusty boots. You’re the reason we’re able to keep doing what we do and bringing people together in one of Australia’s most unique festival settings,” he said.
A Festival Like No Other
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Mundi Mundi Plains, just north of Silverton in Outback New South Wales, the Mundi Mundi Bash offers a one-of-a-kind experience that blends music, community, and the rugged beauty of the Australian outback. The 2026 festival, running from August 20-22, promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a star-studded line-up featuring some of Australia’s most beloved artists.
The roster includes The Teskey Brothers, Jon Stevens, John Butler, Boy & Bear, Baby Animals, Jessica Mauboy, The Whitlams, Leo Sayer, Tim Finn, Richard Clapton, Troy Cassar-Daley, Chocolate Starfish, Furnace and the Fundamentals, Wendy Matthews, The Radiators, Shane Howard, Fanny Lumsden, 50 Years of Fleetwood Mac, Hot Potato Band, Tom Busby, and Wes Carr. With such a diverse and legendary line-up, the festival is set to draw music lovers from across the country.
But the Mundi Mundi Bash is more than just a music festival. It’s a celebration of outback culture, featuring quirky activities like world-record attempts, charity fun runs, camel rides, comedy sessions, and even an outdoor cinema. The event is camping-based, all-ages, and dog-friendly, making it a perfect getaway for families, friends, and even furry companions.
A New Chapter for 2026
One of the festival’s most beloved traditions, the Nutbush world-record dance-off, is being retired, but organisers are already hard at work developing a new crowd activity to keep the spirit of fun and community alive. Details of the new activity are yet to be announced, but anticipation is already building among festival-goers.
Tickets for the 2026 Mundi Mundi Bash have been on sale for just a month and are already selling fast, with organisers confident of another sell-out year. With a crowd of nearly 15,000 expected, the festival continues to grow as a must-attend event on Australia’s cultural calendar.
