Zara opens in Perth

By Michael Walton.

When its second location was revealed as Garden City, it wasn’t long before brands such as Witchery, Veronika Maine & Saba were relocated in the centre to make room for their new neighbour, Zara, the international high street retailer.

Filling 1300 square metres of retail space with the latest offerings from the SS14/15 collections, Zara opened its Garden City Shopping Centre doors to an awaiting crowd. Some overly excited customers had been waiting outside the store since the wee hours of the morning, while others had travelled over an hour to be one of the first to rush through those opening doors.

The bottom floor was like the scene of an African savanna (Mean Girls, anyone?)with women pushing and shoving to secure themselves pieces of the new collection like it was fresh meat for a lion’s pride. The menswear section was relatively tame in comparison as Zara’s stylish Perth clientele bade fair warning to their consumerism’s competition.

Overall the store was welcomed by its awaiting audience, but leaving those familiar with the Spanish giant wanting more like its Sydney & Melbourne flagship siblings. The chains second store to Perth, which will open in the heart of the city in a month is sure to satisfy those wanting more promising a retail space three times the size of its current Garden City offering. Zara has promised to dominate as the international house in Perth already securing its third store location in the northern suburbs Joondalup, whilst its competitors Topshop & H&M have merely secured their Perth flagships.
