Who’s who in Sydney’s new Macquarie Centre

At long last and after months of speculation [we knew was true], it was been officially announced that filling the soon-to-be newly refurbished Macquarie Centre in Sydney are the likes of some of the world’s biggest retail giants. To no surprise as it seems to be the flavour of the year so far.

Like a new hub of all things global retail, H&M, UNIQLO, Zara and Gap have all confirmed their residency with a fifth one still waiting in the ranks to make their official announcement move.

In the diary to be unveiling on 16 October 2014, the reinvigorated Macquarie Centre has had over $440 million poured into it to bring it up to obviously international standard. And now, with these international retailers joining the local versions of department store David Jones and MYER, you can see why.

Over 130 retail stores will be born into the new centre, with names like Scanlan Theodore, Zimmermann, Alice McCall, Gorman, Willow and Sass & Bide adding weight to the already impressive list of retailers.

Next week, as a soft intro to their October opening, the centre will also launch My Macquarie, a personalised app for shopping, fashion news, trends and events.  It is the first Australian app to feature catwalk-to-mobile technology, which allows users to compile a ‘look book’ of favourite outfits from the live runway event on opening day and then helps them to navigate their way around the centre to browse and purchase items.
