TopShop opens its doors in Perth

By Michael Walton.

TopShop TopMan finally opened its doors to an awaiting audience in Perth after a week of promotion with local models and TopShop Perth’s staff touring the city on a double decker bus to build the hype of the British retail giant setting up shop in the middle of the city.

Topshop earlier this year announced its October opening, allowing the crowds enough time to salivate over the British retailer’s moving-in.

The hype of the models with a double decker bus venturing through the city to the coast had even the most hardened of retail watchers excited.

The breakfast set up was cute and the store definitely gave appeal to a younger audience with icypole stalls and Instaprint booths on the day of launch for customers. As I browsed and ventured through the store I was unappeased by the collection on offer. The men’s floor is relatively small with a decent suiting collection on offer. The women’s floors offered a larger collection with accessories and their “designed in Britain” collections. A few too many heavy coats stood out on a warm spring launch, which whilst may have been beautifully cut, but wrong season drop. The in-store stylists spoke highly of their Personal Styling Booths, which sounded delicious serving alcoholic beverages, macaroons and video games for the gentlemen in a marble walled room. As is the way with impending store openings, construction was still a-go, so this element of the store fitout and a few other minor touches left some treats to be desired.

The store opened with success but has since fallen quiet next to its international rival Zara still bursting with customers after its second store opening. I look forward to a winter with Topshop when the stores coats & winter collections can be appreciated by Perth.
