They All Hate Us X Karrinyup SS14

By Michael Walton.

The two ladies who’ve reached a profile country-wide thanks in large part to their tastes for double denim, Chanel and repurposing photography, They All Hate Us, threw a bash to be at in Perth recently.

Firstly the event set up was astounding, turning a shopping mall built upon high-street fashion into an evening champagne bar for the Perth community. Champagne was served as the media mingled, bloggers gathered & style setters stood to the front awaiting the fashion show that was imminent. The duo from They All Hate Us were introduced to the crowd hosts to showcase and commentate on the latest spring summer fashions available within Karrinyup Shopping Centre.

Tash Sefton wore her usual wardrobe go-to; double denim. Whilst Elle Ferguson showcased her legs in black shorts and a classic white shirt; both dressed of course by their recent sponsor; Witchery. This was the first disappointment, after all Karrinyup Shopping Centre is filled with great high-street fashion that a mix of retailers would’ve been a nice showcase of what is available.

The girls took seat upon stools on stage as model after model came out in outfits courtesy of local retailers. The onslaught of Dotti, Cue, Sportsgirl, General Pants, and Gazman continued to affront the senses as the ladies commented and read from a script in a robotic tone that was clearly put together by the centre stylist.

The outfits were predictable and nothing was captivating enough to ‘wow’ the crowd.

They All Hate Us became more alive and up-beat when the “fashion show” ended and it was turned into a Q & A interactive with the fashion crowd. The girls answered questions about working together as best friends, explaining their version of style, and how they ‘came to be’.

After having noticed a few shots on their Instagram account merely hours before the show in which one of the photos was a picture of Westfield’s #MostHunted campaign: a competitor for Karrinyup Shopping Centre, I decided to ask the girls; “How do you decide what brands or companies you align yourselves and collaborate with?”

They answered, “Well our blog has become a brand, so we have to be selective and stay true to what we represent. Neither Tash or myself drink alcohol, we both get inundated with being asked to promote alcohol but we decide not to as it doesn’t reflect us.”

With that answer, the ladies later unveiled their partnership with McCain Pizzas the very next day, with whom they’re to create pyjamas…

After the Q&A the ladies allowed guests to gather and battle it out of the privilege of meeting the pair as well as being photographed up against an enormous floral wall.

Whilst Sefton and Ferguson were caught up in a blogger feeding frenzy, the in-centre stylist open the floodgates to an army of models who cascaded down the escalators above, emulating Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton runways in all white ensembles.

This moment, clearly designed as a grand finale was lost amongst the hype of the two bloggers and became just white noise as the closing act of the evening.
