The Spirit of the Black Dress

The Spirit of the Black Dress

A part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival since 2010, the Spirit of the Black Dress is back again to celebrate all that’s good in independent, emerging Australian fashion design.

Purposed to promote emerging fashion and textile designers while bringing to attention exceptional Australian talent, The Spirit of the Black Dress seeks to highlight how the innovators of our time are progressing and battling through changes, issues and betterments.

By way of a gala evening, runway show, fashion film screening and public art exhibition, The Spirit of the Black Dress is a key part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s celebration of local and nation wide fashion.

Ten of who are deemed to be Australia’s next best up-and-coming design talents are selected by a panel of five industry professionals all from varying backgrounds, degrees and standpoints to provide an even approach.

The designers must meet certain criteria and appeal to the Australian fashion sense for creativity, an appreciation of design and textiles and interest in the appropriateness of the international design community.

These designers are intended on being the front runners of style who have a direct impact on creating trends.

The Spirit of the Black Dress key dates are…

Opening Gala: 14 March 2013

Public exhibition: Monday 18 March to Monday 1 April 2013.
