Sydney’s Great Gatsby Soirée

By Michael Briones.

A celebration of an era of extravagance.

There was a tremendous hype for the premiere movie of Baz Luhrmann’s take of the Great Gatsby.

This weekends Soirée made no exception to let this hype decease. Rather, instead of celebrating this long awaited excitement by just simply watching it at the cinemas, we immersed ourselves with a few drinks (or maybe more than just a few). Why not? This may possibly be the winning film for Leonardo DiCaprio’s first Oscar. Let’s drink to that!

It was like jumping into a time machine, teleporting us back to the 1920’s as Hugo’s Lounge proudly – and tastefully – took host to this event.

Alongside the martinis and Hugo’s famous pizza, people were dressed and flourished with tweed, corduroy suits, fur coats, hats, pearl necklaces, bow-ties and a generous amount of white, black and brown, all the while looking quite ‘Gatsby-ish’ to celebrate this Era of Extravagance.

Various cast and crew members from the film came along to celebrate the arrival and success of the Great Gatsby. However, Leonardo disappointingly was not expected to attend that night. I guess we’ll let it slide this time.

Enjoy the film!
