Albion Melbourne

South Melbourne’s Albion Hotel is back and better than ever

When a fire ripped through The Albion Hotel back in late 2015, we thought we had lost one of South Melbourne’s best drinking establishments forever.

But fast forward two years and our favourite inner-city local is back, baby.

Raising from the ashes, this three-level pub has had a modern upgrade which is evident as soon as you lay eyes on the sleek York St building.

And that’s only the start of it. Once you step inside things only get better.

The rooftop

Climb three sets of stairs (ok, we took the lift) and you reach the pinnacle of The Albion – a stylish rooftop oasis with views over our glamorous city. We know, this is Melbourne and a rooftop is no big deal, but here you have one thing that a lot of other rooftops don’t have- space. So much space, that the chances of you knocking your vodka soda into someone else’s shoulder on the way back to your friends, is slim to none. Winning! Once the sun goes down and the city lights up, you’ve got lounges to your right, DJ decks and a dance floor to your left and a sleek bar going nearly the length of rooftop offering the best damn mood lighting we have ever seen.

Oh and more thing, yes you’re on a rooftop, but let’s be honest, we’re in Melbourne and rain here is as certain as taxes. So with a roof also covering the space, you’re able to put your party pants on rain, hail or shine. Double winning!

The food and drink

Expect all your favourites from the food and drink department thanks to the fully stocked bar and new state of the art kitchen. Mixing local produce and global flavours, soft shell crab bao, cider-braised pork belly and fresh AF poke bowls can be paired beautifully with any and everything from the extensive drinks menu (our tip – order the espresso martini).

The dance floor

With a 5am license on Friday and Saturday nights, expect to walk in for an arvo bev and walk out with the sunrise. With the three levels offering three very different vibes, you know you’re in for a good (and long!) night once you step foot in the door. And who knows, you might even see part owners, ex-Collingwood AFL player Dane Swan and former rugby league legends Danny Williams and Robbie Kearns, cutting shapes on the d-floor beside you?
