The Royal Croquet Club Has Arrived In Melbourne

Last Friday the Royal Croquet Club opened its inaugural pop-up food and music event. With jugs of Pimms worthy of a day of British tennis at Wimbledon; if you crave the essence of an English summer combined with the best of Melbourne’s food and music, swat up on your croquet skills and get down here.

Happily situated on the banks of the Yarra River at the Birrarung Marr, the Club will be open daily until 1st February (free entry except weekends are $5 after 7pm).  The food contingent includes some of Melbourne’s most cherished eateries.  Gelato Messina offers a 1950s pop art style paint can containing flavoursome treats such as chocolate fondant gelato with kirsch cream.  Eminently Instagramable; Meatmother, Mr Claws, D.O.C, Misschu and St Ali also present some super summer nibbles.

Featuring a huge faux croquet lawn in the middle of the space, keep a look out for Mr Gatsby and his chums (actors dressed in 1920s gear) who will join you in a game of croquet and a glass of fizz!

During the day, live tennis will be shown on large screens.  A huge music stage will also host a cracking line up of live acts including Brisbane’s The Kite String Tangle (23 January) and the legendary Norman Jay MBE (30 January).  Gearing up for Australia Day Weekend the site will expand to host additional activities and food trucks.

Set to become a regular in the Melbourne summer calendar, well worth a visit.
