Reid Cycles opens on Chapel Street

There’s something a little different about #melbournestreetstyle. Reid Cycles is no exception, with their very Melbourne-esque collection perfect for the city’s street culture. The popular Australian-owned bikes have hit an all-time high with the opening of their Windsor store on Friday.

Think DJ, drinks and live graffiti from Makatron . Combine this with Reid’s fierce bike collection, and you get Reid’s brand new and renovated Windsor store. Walking into the store, its random graffiti over the bare walls gives an edgy vibe to the store you rarely come across.

Owner James Reid said the renovated factory store was a perfect way to accommodate the needs of customers who live this side of Melbourne. Reid also expressed his love of infusing bikes with fashion.

“It’s more than just a bike, it’s a collaboration of riding a bike and being on trend. It’s a lifestyle and a fashion. This is why we had to open a store here, it’s perfect for the south side area,” he said.

Indeed, Reid Cycles have become a huge success and widely sought instagram-worthy brand. You only have to look at the many photogenic tags of vibrant, on-trend and quaint rides via the @reidcycles feed to get a sense of where the company is going.

Artistic director David Hannay said he wanted the Windsor store to ‘look a little different’ from the Adelaide, Sydney and North Melbourne stores, because of the bare 30-metre white walls. Hence, spray paint on bikes occurred.

“We had the space to make the store look amazing so we did. We wanted to make an impact for this area so we went all-out on the artistic front,” Hannay said.

‘The brand is ripe for new material. We saw this as a good opportunity for guys to come in and paint a wall, film it, time-lapse it. It captures the vibe around the area creates a sense of off-beat style.”
