QV Tropical Retreat

By Holly Thomas.

Melbourne winter is known to be pretty dire and can leave us seeking warmer climates around this time of year; luckily QV is on hand to offer a little bit of rest bite from this winter weather in the form of a Tropical Retreat. The Tropical Retreat is a beach themed resort sanctuary popped up in the center of this buzzing shopping hub. This fantastic escape is offering a range of exciting events for all ages, with Cocktail Masterclasses for the adults and a Tropical Wildlife Close Encounter for the children. Also on the agenda are rice paper roll and cupcake masterclasses, hula competitions and free manicures.

I went along to the launch of QV’s Tropical Retreat and had the chance to sample some delicious cocktails and get an insight into the amazing events to come. This tropical sanctuary takes you straight out of Melbourne and into a beach themed paradise adorned with towering palm trees, hanging lanterns, and even a manmade beach complete with hammock for complete relaxation. The retreat featured a pop up bar where we had the pleasure of tasting some fantastic cocktails like the Bamboo Orchard, a rum based cocktail mixed with pineapple juice and a couple of secret ingredients from two of Melbourne’s best mixologists. Guests were completely transported to a Tropical Island by the DJ and accompanying bongo player, nothing screams beach party more than a guy playing the bongos along to your favourite house music.

We were treated to a show by the amazing Sounds Of Polynesia, an all drumming, all dancing group who were robed in traditional Polynesian dress and entertained us with an insight into their culture and beautifully bold and traditional costume.

After a few words from Bernie Young the evenings MC, guests were served with some wonderful plates of food. Seafood tacos, delicious fresh fish sliders and smoked salmon parcels where the nibbles of choice, they were extremely light and perfectly complimented the Tropical theme of the evening. One thing I would not expect to find on a tropical island however is an amazingly decadent chocolate bar, which gave a tasty twist to the running theme of the evening. Tucked away from the roaring heat of the sanctuary and boasting about a dozen different chocolate and fruit combinations, this bar provided by Sisko Chocolate, was the perfect sweet treat to complete the evening.

QV never fails to pull out all the stops with its pop up events and this Tropical Retreat is no exception. With a little help along the way from the amazing Flower Temple, Red Spice Road, The Cupcake Family and several other contributors, this indoor sanctuary will keep guests out of the cold and will transport you directly to your very own tropical paradise.
