The Opera Australia and Mazda ‘Opera in the Domain’ is back again this summer

If you’re not in Melbourne for the annual Mazda Opera in the Bowl, then the Sydney version that is the Opera in the Domain is back with a vengeance and better than ever.

A stellar line up of Australia’s finest opera singers and musical talents will gather under the stars on Saturday 13 January 2018 to perform at Opera Australia’s annual outdoor and free opera fest, turning out some of the world’s oldest and most beautiful pieces of music.

Earlier this year in 2017, the Opera in the Domain attracted over 24,000, going to show that Sydney folks love some quality vocal work and a sensational night out of accessible high culture.

The 2018 production will be hosted by radio presenter Christopher Lawrence and Mazda Australia ambassador Rob Mills, as decorated soprano Lorina Gore, stunning mezzo-soprano Sian Pendry, commanding baritone Michael Honeyman and magnificent tenor Diego Torre, with the Opera Australia Orchestra under the baton of Tahu Matheson take to the stage.

This year, Michael Honeyman and Sian Pendry shone as Amonasro and Amneris in Griffith
Opera on the Beach – Aida, Lorina Gore was captivating as the leading lady in La Traviata, and
Diego Torre treated audiences to a powerful performance as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly.

What makes it the ideal outdoor music event for Sydney locals and visitors is that the Mazda Opera in the Domain is the ideal opportunity for first-time and seasoned opera goers alike to experience the magic of opera. It shows the highlights from the world’s most popular operas such as CarmenTurandot and La Traviata by opera’s most loved composers including Bizet, Puccini and Verdi.
