If you like good food and great wine then One Penny Red in Sydney is where you want to be.

Built into an old heritage listed post office in Summer Hill, One Penny Red has taken the 114-year-old building and created a modern day restaurant with a new unique menu that’s anything but dated.

Inspired by Kansas City and its love for all things BBQ and Smoked, head chef RJ Lines has created a menu that pays homage to the US city with an elevated smoked menu paired with exclusive wines chosen by One Penny Red’s very own Sommelier, David Murphy.

If you’re not a big smoked foods fan, you will be happy to know that most of the smokiness in each dish is quite subtle,  allowing for the flavours of the dish to stand out. From entrees to dessert this signature smoking surprisingly works even the dessert of smoked ricotta, blood orange and rye whiskey ice cream where it creates a perfect blend of sweet and smokey.

Highlight dishes to try while there are the Clarence River king prawns with smoked tarragon butter and the molasses beef short rib with plum and kohlrabi. Each dish will have you salivating for more.

According to Sommelier Murphy, the recommended wine for the King Prawns is the Sassafras Fiano which itself is enough to make anyone want to come back.

One Penny Red prides itself on its wine selection with the restaurant winning many awards for their selection. The new smoked menu includes some of best wine from around the world including Muhr-van der Niepoort Blaufrankisch Carnuntum from Austria and Bobar Cabernet franc from the Yarra Valley.

If you’re looking to give your taste buds a new experience, this is your next Sunday afternoon hotspot to try. The best part of it all, is when you are finished you can head upstairs to the bar and enjoy balcony views over a Negroni.
