Turns out, Rockpool Dining Group and Neil Perry, its creative director have been selected to cater the 800-guest strong celebration of food and the good life that is the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017 awards ceremony in Melbourne on Wednesday, 5 April.

Neil and his team of chefs will deliver produce-driven menus showcasing the finest Australian ingredients to 800 guests at the pre- and post-awards events, to be held at Melbourne’s beautiful Royal Exhibition Building.

Neil said he was honoured to deliver menus for such an iconic event and to be able to hero amazing Australian produce, at the height of seasonality, to the world’s most distinguished chefs.

“We really want to showcase Australia’s outstanding produce and celebrate the sustainable fisheries and dedicated farmers who are the lifeblood of our industry, and the cornerstone of what we do at Rockpool Dining Group,” he said.

Neil said the menus would be designed around “the provenance and purity of Australian produce” and draw inspiration from items that feature on the menus across Rockpool Dining Group restaurants, including Rockpool Bar & Grill, Saké Restaurant & Bar, Spice Temple, Rosetta and Fratelli Fresh.

“Each core ingredient will be a hand-selected beacon of best practice in sustainable fishing and farming, which we will cook simply to deliver a true taste of Australia,” Neil said.

“In that respect I consider myself to be merely a conductor, directing a chorus of outstanding Australian produce with which we will serenade the world’s finest chefs and a global contingent of ardent food lovers.”

The pre-awards menu will feature a preamble of simple and delicious cocktail-style bites, which will whet appetites for a crescendo of incredible seafood that will headline the post-awards menu.

An artistic ‘still-life’ of Australian produce will be a fitting aesthetic centrepiece to the annual celebration of global gastronomy.

Time to get excited, Melbourne!
