MJ Bale

With a raft of fine materials, principles of quality over quantity and a skill in tailoring that rivals the best, fine menswear for the discerning gentlemanly dresser is left in the wake of M.J. Bale, a Sydney menswear label whose eye for style is a cut above the rest.

With roots established in the Australian high country and sensibilities with a definitive nod toward the Australian merino wool industry, M.J. Bale’s offering is fine, luxurious and practical for the right wearer.

Matt Jensen, founder of the brand is an inspirationally adept retailer and director who has taken his tenacity for menswear to the fore and showered the men of Australia in a refreshing smattering of style.

I had the chance for a yarn with him where we discussed men’s style, the brand and trends…

When it comes to dressing men, there is one piece of advise the team pump out and that is for men to choose something they will feel comfortable in while making sure it suite their style and body shape.

By playing on the practical element of clothing, MJ Bale offers customers something more than just disposable fashion. Their developed collections that encompass clothing for informal occasions like long summer evenings and beach parties, as well as the more dressy events make sure that all needs are met.

The brand has been around since 2009 and since then, has very much solidified itself in the landscape as being one of the go-tow for not only occasional and day-to-day wear, but one of more substance than most.

“We pride ourselves on supporting the Australian wool industry by giving our customers superior woolen garments. We think that wool is the best performing menswear fabric available, and perfect for the lifestyle of our customers and the Australian climate,” said Jensen.

This comes part-and-parcel with  Jensen’s control freak-ness, which he openly admits to. He’s very much driving the MJ Bale game and wants the brand’s customers to know that they’re not only buying quality threads, but an ethically and supportively sourced product.

The means behind how he and the team get the clothes from conception to the end of the line is pretty impressive. Jensen works constantly with the product team to make sure they’re creating garments of integrity and style.

“We work with some of the best  suppliers globally (fabric mills and craftsmen from Italy to China and Japan), which means we have a mutual understanding on what we aim to achieve each season and they are very aware and respect the importance we place on the quality and consistency of our garments,” he said.

Spring-summer of 2014 is bringing M.J. Bale a super blue story from tuxedo to distressed indigo, perfect with all the summer gelato brights that works-in well with their Cool Wool bold windowpane check suits, traditional bright check shirts with a nod of detailing. Not to mention their (providing them with a good laugh) patchwork and floral print jackets with matching shorts – a no brainer if you want comments on what you are wearing.
