Miss Burlesque Australia 2013 Grand Final

We all know the stereotype of the balloon clad burlesque dancer, seductively parading her voluptuous body in front of a pack of well allured onlookers… Sexy, huh?

That’s basically the stuff that now haunts my dreams thanks to what took place in Melbourne recently.

At the Athenaeum, what is supposedly regarded as the world’s greatest burlesque competitions, the Miss Burlesque Australia competition took place in an explosion of feathers, colour, leather and androgyny.

Now in its fourth year Miss Burlesque Australia delivered a truly unforgettable night of dazzling costumes, glamour and storytelling as the finalists performed their cutting edge routines in the Classic, Neo (post 1960s) and Unique (the performers’ own interpretations) forms.

With the eternally unique Boylesque aspect of the competition on show for the audience too, it was a homosexually-heterosexually charged celebration of the sensuality of the most extreme life choices a man or woman can make.

I teamed-up with Matthew Raabus from MIRAR PR and went along. It was a laugh!
