Madison Magazine shuts down

We all knew it was coming.

With the imminent launch of Australia’s own Elle Magazine this September, powered by the infallible publishing forces of Bauer Media – the German-based company that bought one of Australia’s two biggest publishing houses, ACP Magazines for $500 million in 2012- it was only a matter of time.

Madison Magazine’s time on this earth has come to an end.

Bauer Media CEO Matthew Stanton said: ”The decision to close a title is never easy but after recent and lengthy discussions with our joint venture partner, Hearst Magazines International, the conclusion was sadly drawn that for Madison to continue was no longer a commercially viable option.

The canning of the magazine will leave 15 staff unemployed.

News of Madison’s death come just a month after its ACP sister Grazia Magazine saw its own demise at the peril of low readership and lack of funds, leaving rumours to spread wildly about the potential closure of OK! Magazine; despite reassurances it won’t happen.

On her headstone next to Grazia, with a plot ready and waiting for more, no doubt, her headstone will read loved by some, not by most, gone but not forgotten.
