Madama Butterfly, one of the easiest operas to watch for the newcomer and one of the most classic love stories of all time by Puccini is fluttering away.

Director Moffatt Oxenbould’s magnificent production is being a last hurrah with a final two-week season at the Capitol Theatre in October.

Premiering in 1997 this production of Madama Butterfly has been performed more than any other production in Opera Australia’s repertoire. It has been universally praised for its sheer beauty, the gorgeous costumes, evocative sets and Puccini’s magnificent music. Designed around silk, fire, water and wood, Oxenbould’s legendary production will feature celebrated South Korean soprano Karah Son making her Australian debut as Cio-Cio San.

Son will also be joined in the role by Opera Australia soprano Hyeseoung Kwon along with Australia’s favourite tenor, the incredible Diego Torre along with Spanish tenor Andeka Gorrotxategi who will share the role of Pinkerton.

Featuring some of the best known arias in the opera world including ‘Un bel di? vedremo’, Madama Butterfly is an unforgettable experience for opera first-timers and lovers alike.
