Lunch at the Park House in Mona Vale is worth the trip

Take a leisurely, one-hour drive north of Sydney’s CBD, and you’ll find yourself in the beachside suburb of Mona Vale, home to the beautifully redeveloped Park House Food Merchants (previously known as the Mona Vale Hotel).

Walking into this newly redeveloped establishment, you’d be forgiven for thinking you are in sunny, Southern California.

With the high-ceilinged restaurant extending outdoors to a cocktail bar featuring a retractable roof and a patio cooling system that delivers a cool mist of fine water during those hot summer days, this new establishment has a very fun, SoCal vibe.

Moving outside, you’ll find comfortable couches and fireplaces – the perfect place to sit and enjoy one of the many cocktails on offer, including the signature Grapefruit Margarita (Tequila, Triple Sec, agave, grapefruit juice, egg white, lime and lemon/$18).

After working up an appetite at the cocktail bar, why not order a few dishes to share? This is a concept encouraged at Park House, so that everybody in your group can experience the SoCal-inspired, culinary delights on offer.

Kick start the meal with a few small dishes, such as the Burnt Eggplant Baba-Ganouj, Pomegranate Molasses, Roasted Pistachios and Sumac ($12) with a selection of Simit and Flat Breads ($5).

To accompany the surrounding beach vibe, there is a nice choice of seafood dishes such as the Flash-fried Crisp Squid/$19 or the Wood Roasted Freemantle Octopus Twice Cooked/$24.

And meat-lovers won’t be disappointed with dishes including the 600g Angus Hereford T-Bone/$52 and the Slow Cooked Lamb Forequarter/$42.

And why not go out on a high and finish the meal with the Epic Chocolate Fudge Brownie Salted Caramel Popcorn/$12!

The recent Park House redevelopment is just stage one of a five stage plan, with the second stage (Front Yard Brews & Burgers) due for completion in December. Stay tuned!
