2018 Toyota Chr Koba: Test driving the Toyota C-HR 2WD Koba SUV

Toyota Koba CHR

Toyota is top-shelf. If they’re not supporting upcoming drivers at the T86RS around the country, they’re producing awesome vehicles like the Toyota C-HR 2WD Koba SUV, perfect for inner city driving.

The car is zippy, modern, urban and since 2017, became one of the best contenders on the market for wheels out there along the lines of the Mazda CX3 and Honda HRV. But what is it that sets it apart? It’s different.

If it’s not the contrast roof on the Koba that sets it apart alone for you, then a look between the doors is something significantly more memorable that, for anyone who enjoy driving good cars, makes all the difference.

The Koba is one of those cars that makes people stop, look, comment and question, “what is that?” – a sensation that is both flattering, and tiresome after it happens consistently as you sit at a cafe for Sunday brunch.

The car is striking both inside and out, working with leather finishings, seat warmers, a responsive and accommodating ride and just generally slick.

It’s the inner city car you know you want, if you’re without kids, take friends a lot of places and need that extra oomph to get you through the day.

The Koba C-HR interior

The car is all kinds of kitted out. It comes with a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, climate control, cruise control, push-button start, leather seat trim, heated front seats, automated LED headlights with daytime running lights, LED rear lights, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and auto wipers. Basically all the good things you need in a city car.

Infotainment

The Koba C-HR has a small-but-practical 6.1-inch touchscreen, complete with Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and a single USB for those of us caught in the past.

The perks of it are heavily focused on the built-in satellite navigation which makes navigating the messily planned streets of Sydney or the far-flung grids of Melbourne and beyond.

The drive

The Koba C-HR’s got a quality drive about it. Its safety focus is great with its adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. It’s got blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-keeping assistance, which if you’re likely to fall asleep behind the wheel is a major draw card.

Complete with a maximum five-star ANCAP crash score, the ride comes with seven airbags made-up of dual front, front side, full-length curtain, driver’s knee.

It’s a ride worth having. Check out more details at the Toyota Koba C-HR website.
