International opera stars to perform in unique Canberra gala

For the first time in Canberra, six international guest artists from the State Opera House of Saarbrücken in Germany will perform an exquisite repertoire with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra on 8 July only.

This extraordinary international artistic collaboration between Australia and Germany promises to be an epic concert event. The Gala features world-class opera stars – originally from Germany, Iceland, Chile and Japan – who have performed on stages across the world.

The guest vocalists from Germany will join the CSO to perform favourite Puccini, Wagner, Verdi, Rossini and Mozart arias under the baton of CSO chief conductor and artistic director, Nicholas Milton AM.

The much-anticipated event at Llewellyn Hall has been made possible through an international cultural exchange initiative, generously supported by the governments of Australia and Germany.

“We are delighted to be bringing these exceptional international stars to Canberra to perform with our orchestra,” says Canberra Symphony Orchestra CEO, Sarah Kimball.

This collaboration reflects the high calibre of the CSO – which consistently “punches above its weight” in Australia. This is far from the first time the CSO has worked with international artists, but represents a new era in being able to attract top-class talent directly to Canberra. The CSO is utilising the maturing city, with the stars flying directly from Singapore. It’s a great example of how these international flights are supporting the growth and cultural diversity of Canberra and the region.

Canberra is pulling out all the stops for this remarkable event. A special opera-in-the-city experience has been created to enable regional residents to enjoy this opportunity – or locals to take advantage of a really unique way to have a kid-free, romantic evening.
