Hey there QT

By Henry Ng.

A traditional shave is nowadays regarded a luxury service that men indulge in occasionally more than it is a grooming activity that they seek out regularly. With that understanding in mind, The Barber @spaQ has cleverly worked out treatment packages that entice men into the realm of luxury grooming.

Catering to the modern gentlemen whose sartorial choices are equally important to their gadgets and trophy wives (and husbands) as well as hotel guests (spaQ is located in the QT Sydney Hotel), the different packages include services such as haircut, shave and facial. I opted for the Mr. Bond treatment, a 40-minute package that included a shave, an eye treatment and an eyebrow trim.

Kris, barber of the day, began the pampering experience with a hot towel to soften the facial hair before applying a healing cream and finished off with a two-step straight edge razor shave. This process is repeated once more before a beauty therapist soothed the eyes with a masque application, performed a shoulder massage and tidied up unruly eyebrows. The final step included a cold towel to close the pores and an application of moisturiser.

The thought of getting a cut-throat razor shave at the barber seems like a chore for most modern men and being held up in a spa for an hour or two is not something men would get too excited about either. What The Barber @spaQ has conceptualised is a perfect, no-nonsense approach to men’s skincare and grooming that could possibly revive the pleasures of a traditional shave.
