Fashion Exposed – AMXANDER

Give us a brief background information on the label. Where is it based, when was it established?

AMXANDER is a print-based menswear label that will see its debut within the next month 2013 for the Fashion Exposed event. It is based in Melbourne, Australia and is the effort of Jason Alexander Pang, a recent graduate from RMIT’s school of design and previous intern at Mary Katrantzou in London.

When will the first collection launch onto Australian stores?

Our virtual launch of our Spring/Summer 2013/14 will coincide with our first viewing of the collection at the Fashion Exposed Tradeshow this year. We’re so excited!

What is the ‘new’ value of this collection? Is it your debut collection?

Jason has been drawn to prints since his graduate collection at RMIT. This will be his first collection for his label, AMXANDER, aimed at disequilibrating the menswear market in Australia. With a team that has years of experience in graphic design and in ready to wear clothing, the label aims to provide quality, novelty and wearability to the streets.

Are you pursuing a retail presence eventually or wholesale?

At this point in time, we are pursuing wholesale. Melbourne is a big landscape, so we’re taking steps slowly and safely.

What does the debut collection include?

The debut collection will feature approximately 20 styles, based on menswear staples available in men’s size small, medium and large. With our smallest size aimed to be a unisex fit. Prints will dominate the collection with DTG (direct to garment) technology enabling our clothing to reflect the desired vibrancy and effects of our graphic designs. Pricing will range from 100 AUD to 400 AUD retail as we want our designs to be accessible.

What was the inspiration behind this collection?

Our team noticed that there has been a drastic shift in the once static high-end market that resulted in contemporary labels really making an impact on the fashion scene. It is no longer such a top-down process. In addition, radical shifts in fashion, especially in the menswear market, saw generation X & Y grow in appreciation for clothing and what it represents. AMXANDER’s debut collection aims to capture the frugality of the future through bold ultramodern prints. The underlying idea of the collection was to provide men with something unseen in the market, to be seen on the street.

How many collections will you be producing a year?

We plan to create two collections per year.

Will the collection be sold online or in retail stores? Where?

The collection will be only be available through wholesalers at the moment. As for the future, who knows.
