‘Don’t Tell’ movie is one to see

Don’t Tell is being called Australia’s Spotlight, and it’s not difficult to see why.

Based on a true story, the film depicts the woman known as Lyndal bringing forward a sexual assault case in 2001 against the prestigious Anglican school in Toowoomba where she suffered horrific abuse. Don’t Tell is rare in its accurate portrayal of the complexities of abuse case hearings and stigma associated with child abuse, interspersed with harrowing flashbacks.

The film is a David and Goliath portrayal of a disturbed, yet determined young woman up against a well-funded archdiocese and formidable legal team, and doesn’t shy away from depicting the utterly devastating consequences of abuse.

So groundbreaking was the case that it was key in setting up the Australian government’s Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in 2013.

Despite being a difficult watch, Don’t Tell is a must-see.
