Merry Widow Opera Australia Stacey Alleaume

A day in the life of a modern Opera Australia diva: Stacey Alleaume

Stacey Alleaume is a soprano singer for Opera Australia whose tenure to-date has been more than impressive.

Currently performing the role of Valencienne in the soon-to-come production by Opera Australia, The Merry Widowshe epitomises the modern day dive (not in the Mariah Carey or Naomi Campbell way) as she wows with her stunning vocals.

Well-practised from her performances as Leila in The Pearlfishers, Micaela in Carmen and Alexandra Mason in Sydney Opera House – The Opera, she’s more than well-chiseled her position as one of OA’s favourites, so we’ve taken a position underneath her wing as she performs her latest gig in Melbourne from 25 November, ’til it moves to the Sydney Opera House from 2 January to 3 February 2017.

Good morning

My day begins with spending quality time with my dog Ziva, playing fetch in the garden. I’m away from home for months at a time, so when I am home in Melbourne I love spending as much time with him as possible.

Carbing up

Next stop, Flinders Lane! I love a delicious, healthy lunch at Laneway Greens.

A quick wander through town

In my spare time outside the theatre and rehearsals, I enjoy walking around and exploring whatever city I am in! For me, Melbourne is my hometown, and I love the iconic laneways, Degraves Street and Centre Place.

Some sustenance throughout the performance

My biggest weakness is my sweet tooth – the day is never complete without a bit of chocolate! Haigh’s is definitely one of my favourites.

Time to hit the theatre

Getting the look

One hour before curtain up: microphone is in place, wig is on and makeup is complete.

Ready to go for Act I

“Ms. Alleaume to the stage please.” Meet Valencienne! I have finished warming up and looking over my score. I am ready for Act I.

Backstage before Act II

Backstage before the commencement of Act II with my colleague Benjamin Rasheed, who performs the role of Njegus. I think Njegus has a sneaky suspicion Valencienne is about to get up to no-good. Back on to the stage for the rest of the performance.

Stacey Alleaume is currently performing the role of Valencienne in The Merry Widow, which is playing at Arts Centre Melbourne until November 25 before moving to the Sydney Opera House January 2 – February 3.
