Cabaret Cyrens Cy Coleman

Cyrens: the Songs of Cy Colman

Three absolute professionals of Australia’s musical theatre and cabaret scene took to the stage on Tuesday night and breathed life and love into the songbook of one of Broadway’s star composers and coolest cats, Cy Colman.

Amanda Harrison, Chelsea Renton-Gibb, and Melissa Langton were exceptional from first appearance on stage to last note sung in Cyrens: The Songs of Cy Colman under the musical direction of show devisor Mark Jones. The trio were funny, heart wrenching, and just plain old brilliant as they looked back through some of Coleman’s best known – and one not so well known (but hilarious) – songs from shows like Sweet Charity, City of Angels and also some of his beautiful jazz standards.

It was difficult to find a standout moment among the beautiful work performed on stage by these talented ladies whose harmonies as a trio were perfect to the point of tears and whose solo works throughout the piece was so brilliantly measured, and so deeply heartfelt that they left the audience begging for more.

If you see one show in this Melbourne Cabaret Festival, then make sure this is the one.

Cyrens: The Songs of Cy Colman is playing at Chapel Off Chapel at 8:30pm from Tuesday 27th of June to Saturday 1st of July, tickets can be purchased at the Melbourne Cabaret website.
