Jamie Oliver, why you do this to us? Yes, it’s true, Jamie Oliver’s Italian in Sydney has decided to come out swinging for the holidays with a more than tantalising Christmas menu.

Just when we thought our summer bodies were safe, a new foe has arisen, genius conceived, gorgeously prepared, impeccably presented Italian cuisine from the mind of one of our favourite Brits. All them delicacies are heading straight for your belly and your heart and you’ll be the merrier for it. Bring on the festivities.

Sauntering up to get this party started are the entrees of our dreams, part Tuscan hills aura, part Bondi at dusk, these dishes synthesis the heartbeat of what it means to love Italy and be in Australia.

The retro prawn cocktail sitting on its bed of smashed avocado, radicchio and bloody mostarda mayonnaise has us going, you bastarda how have you kept this from us so long?

The beef carpaccio with roasted squad, fiery mustard dressing and chestnuts and free range chicken liver pate with vin santo, fig chutney and toasted brioche have us saluting Edesia and shovelling more into our mouths. Roasted mulloway with brown prawns, garlicky green and celeriac puree and nut roast consisting of quinoa, squash, mushrooms, apricots and arrabbiata, cime di rapa and veggie parmesan whirls us into a new state of Christmas fever.

The ossobuco alla Milanese, slow cooked veal shank with saffron risotto, bone marrow and gremolata ups the ante and then streaming in with more beef than Tay Tay ever had with anyone, the chargrilled fillet steak with whipped truffle butterm Portobello mushrooms, Chianti red wine sauce & black truffle gives the performance of a lifetime. The taste, the texture the flavour tones, yuss, yuss, yuss kween.

And coming to a dazzling finish the wobbly grappa panna cotta with spiced caramelised orange, oaty crumble and pomegranate, the coffee soaked sponge of tiramisu and festive dark chocolate tart with blossom honey ice cream, hazelnuts, candied cherries and orange zest is what all the people wanted. They gave the people what they wanted and they are the better for it.
