Canberra’s FASHFEST 2013

So Canberra has a fashion festival.

I have to admit I never thought I’d see the day, but now that it’s arrived, you’ve got to admit it’s a great step forward for the country’s capital, which pretty much has nothing but the consulates of the world and markets it alone as an attraction. Well, that and Parliament House.

Admittedly for a city that was born for nothing more than politics, it’s pretty exciting for them. And for us! Another fashion festival to add to the annual agenda is a good thing.

From 1 to 4 May this year, Canberra will throw open its doors to fashion lovers the city and country-over to appreciate what Canberra-based designers have to offer.

The festival is focusing on a pretty exciting and new mix of young local and established design talent and entrepreneurs, which aims to shine a bit of a spotlight on a collective of designers and creatives.

For four days, FASHFEST will feature nightly designer fashion shows, parties and live performances all in unexpected spaces and places.

FASHFEST is the baby of husband and wife team Andrea and Clint Hutchinson whose dedication and love for their respective creative industries and love for living in Canberra brings us Canberra’s first stab at the fashion industry.

Backed by their conviction that there is an abundance of amazing talent in this amazing city, Andrea and Clint decided it was time to showcase Canberra for all that it offers. And, so, the seed for a four-day fashion event, on a scale never seen before in the ACT, was planted.

FASHFEST coincides with Canberra’s 100th Birthday celebrations, so the time is right.

Bring on FASHFEST 2013.
