BIBA Salon’s 40th Birthday
This week, BIBA celebrated their 40th birthday and what better way to commemorate the mile stone than hosting an intimate gathering at their newest salon.
BIBA St Kilda is located within the bustling hub of Acland Street and is a five minute stroll to the beach; it is arguably the salons most picturesque location yet. The salon is quietly tucked away between retail stores such as Witchery as Kookai and sits next to some of St Kilda’s best coffee joints, making it too easy for clients to have their tresses tended to and then to hit the shops or grab a coffee afterwards.
The salon itself has a real earthy feel, with exposed brick walls, concrete floors and a flourishing wall garden it has that unpolished edge which makes it stand out from the crowd. All product is on display for clients to peruse with BIBA having its own Apothecary range for both men and women and also stocking Paul Frank & Co. The theme of the evening was hair through the ages and guests were treated to different looks running through 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, noughties and tens, my personal favourite being the unbelievably huge Mohican – the amount of time spent and hairspray used must have been endless.
We were made to feel as is if we had been invited on set for an exclusive shoot; there were bright lights, huge cameras and even bigger hair on display. Despite the celebration feeling somewhat low key, the salon still produced a decadent event, showing off the talents of their finest hairdressers and proving why they are still going strong after 40 years.
