Ben & Jerry’s Open Air Cinema this Summer

The sun’s slowly coming out and so are its worshippers: pretty much every Melburnian there is.

So with sunshine comes more outdoor stuff to do, none quite so great as the Ben & Jerry’s Open Air Cinema, which is back this year with a bit of excitement, bringing music by day and movies by night.

In its local St. Kilda at South Beach Reserve from 30 November til 21 December, the Ben & Jerry’s Open Air Cinema will be recreating their own brand of festival-like vibes, climaxing with top-notch movies by sun-down.

With live music from an array of Melbourne’s best up-and-coming artists every Saturday and Sunday – Sundays with free ice cream and games as part of the Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Sessions – Ben & Jerry’s Open Air Cinemas will once again be recreating their famously fun and friendly festival vibes.

Local stars Husky, the Sundae Sessions season headliners, will be kick-starting proceedings before a screening of ‘Pride’ at the Charity Launch on November 30. Having toured with the likes of Gotye and Mumford & Sons, the local trio are set to perform tracks from their forthcoming second album ‘Rucker’s Hill’. Tickets to the biggest night of the season go on sale Thursday October 16 and all proceeds from ticket sales go to WWF-Australia’s efforts to protect the Great Barrier Reef.

Films showing are:

  • Gone Girl – Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris star in the action packed mystery film about a man who becomes the focus of an intense media circus following the disappearance of his wife
  • The Best of Me – a pair of former high school students find themselves reunited after twenty years apart in this romantic drama
  • The Breakfast Club – a coming of age high school comedy-drama written and directed by John Hughes
  • Frozen Sing-a-Long – sing along to this Academy Award winning musical fantasy about a fearless princess setting off on an unforgettable journey to find her estranged sister
  • Jaws – a hunt for a man-eating great white shark leads to an unfortunate series of events in this original thriller
  • Interstellar – Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway hope to secure the future of humankind in Christopher Nolan’s galaxy-exploring blockbuster
