Avalon Beach House is open again and definitely worth the drive

Drive about an hour north of Sydney and you come across a little beachside suburb called Avalon. It’s far, but when you’re hungry and in the mood for a cruise, the Avalon Beach House scene is a beach-lovers’ idea of foodie paradise.

Located right on Avalon beach, the relaxed-vibes cafe-restaurant and bar is as welcoming as the friendly out-of-city locals who work there, ensuring you’re pretty much in for a seamless and relaxed experience.

It’s upstairs, a part of the annexed section of the surf lifesaving club that also quadruples as a wedding reception and ceremony venue, cafe, take-away and lounge. It’s the local ‘jack of all trades’ when it comes to venues and places to go, with the Beach House restaurant element of it starring prime position.

With sweeping views of the whole beach from end-to-end, the Avalon Beach House offers-up casual beachy vibes with a primarily blonde wood interior as they single-handedly bring back the summertime, beachside trend for rattan.

The menu is heavily seafood with only a few options on-hand for the more meaty of us, but what they do, they do well.

With items on the lunch time menu like a “Catch of the Day Fish + Chips” that comes either tempura, panko crumb or grilled with lime mayo, cabbage slaw ($23), a Buddha poke bowl of avocado, brown rice, edamame, red cabbage, sugar snaps, ginger tamari dressing ($15) with grilled chicken or marinated raw salmon ($25),  raw salmon with wasabi crème fraiche, ginger, toast, soy & mirin dressing ($18) and the very trendy grilled watermelon with tiger prawns, pickled daikon, ponzu dressing ($16) you’ve never eaten so well, so far out of Sydney.
